MAN-NAPPED! - SANTIAGO (CHAPTER 6-II)
continued from man-napped Chapter 6-I
Day
3(Monday) – 51 hours after emergency alert.
At 9.30 a.m., the call came in for a technician to
come fix the faulty power supply and air-conditioning in one of the offices at
Matrix Global. They all moved out and drove off in two cars to meet the NSS electricians
team, where they had Adams dressed up in a customized Elektrofix electronics
vest. Then they switched cars, Adams and Jude got into the van with three other
guys and then they moved on with Rachael following in her own car with Janet.
They were also told that a task force was at hand if things went south.
By forty minutes past ten, the repair van arrived at
Matrix global. Jude said his man was already on the inside. He went in
immediately the call was placed. The van was parked a few metres away and Adams
instructed the inside man on where to insert the flash drive and how to install
the worm. When that was done, the van moved closer and parked outside the facility
where there were no CCTV cameras.
The four ‘technicians’
got down from the van and each one of them cared a kit as they marched into the
building, their pullovers covering the earpiece in their ears.
Good
luck Adams… Rachel said.
The repair team was greeted outside the facility by
the maintenance office of the company. He told them that one of the security
officers had seen an explosion around three O’clock in the morning and that
they thought it was a power overload. He also informed them that they had to
hold a very important meeting in that room and that the situation was holding
up a lot of activities. Therefore, the technicians only had an hour to get the
room ready. They talked along the way as he led them to the room they were to
fix.
“How do you expect us to fix the power and the air
conditioning system in just an hour? That’s impossible; it’s a job that should
take a whole day” The team leader replied.
“Well you don’t have a day, you have an hour.” The
officer insisted.
“I’m sorry, but we’ll have to decline. The task is
impossible” The team leader insisted.”
“Okay, so, what do you suggest? We need to use this
room by twelve noon.”
“I assume you guys have mobile air conditioning
units installed in some offices.” The team leader asked. The officer nodded in
affirmation.
“Great.” The team leader replied. “We simply install
them in this room, that in itself is a very tedious job, but we should be able
to install two units in about thirty minutes, provided we can fix the power on
time. All in all, your meeting will still have to be postponed for about thirty
minutes to an hour.”
“Fair enough, our men will help you out in whatever
way they can.”
“We don’t need them yet” The team leader quickly
replied. “maybe when we start installing the air conditioning units, we’ll need
them to do the heavy lifting, but for now, we work alone and we don’t want to
be disturbed. Tell all your workers to stay clear of this area; we’ll be doing
some very dangerous stuff here.”
The officer looked at him suspiciously and said “We
can’t leave you alone in that office”
The team leader was unruffled; he said “It’s our
policy. We don’t allow non-members of the repair team near a work zone”
The officer looked at them silently for a while and
then nodded and turned his back. The four technicians entered the room and
locked the door behind them.
“Thirty minutes” the team leader said to Adams. “That’s
all you have. You better complete your task before then.” He then directed the
two electricians to start working on the power grid.
“You know, I never thought I would be into espionage.
Now I’m doing twice a week.” Adams said while he opened his laptop.
Adams,
I think you you’ll be able to manage your thirty minutes more effectively if
you keep shut. Rachel said from the other end.
Jude instructed the team leader to disconnect Adams
from the line so that he could he could focus more on the task he was sent
there to do, Adams complained about having to sort through terabytes of data
and knowing what to download and what not to.
The clocked ticked; The electricians worked the Team
leader watched the entrance, Adams bent over his laptop and being that there
was no one to talk to, he actually managed to do his job without boring people
with details.
“Five minutes more…” The team leader called to him.
“Save your breath. I think I got all I need.” Adams
replied.
“Good”. He looked over at the electricians; they
were almost done fixing the power, the meter was in place, they were merely putting
finishing touches.
“We’re coming out” he said into his cell phone. He
opened the door and ordered that the air conditioning units be brought in. When
asked about where he was taking Adams, e said they needed to get some resources
from their van and that they would be right back. Two minutes later, Adams was
back at the van, Jude asked him to go join Rachel in her car and that they head
back to Rachel’s home. He said his men would finish the job and they would be
debriefed later, adding that Rachel’s house was well guarded and that there was
no need to fear.
*****************
55
hours after emergency alert.
Adams, Rachel and Janet analyzed the data they had
gotten from Matrix global and soon they had some answers. Jude and the team
returned an hour later.
“You got anything for me?” Jude asked as e walked
in.
“We’re still trying to digest what we have here,”
Adams replied “it’s a truckload of data – I would say literally but I don’t
think data could be packed into trucks. I think that’s a new term they should
invent you know, we have packets of
data, so why not truckloads. When they do, please tell them I used it first.”
Rachel sighed, Janet smiled while Jude cocked his
head to a side and said “Really, you want to start this again? See, I’m on a
schedule here, so if you have something, please say it and keep it short and I
promise to remind oxford to include your word in their next edition.”
“oh, I forgot how you like your details short. Good,
so I analysed the data, I mean we
analysed the data and well, an email sort of caught our attention. It reads: leviathan is ready. Onto the next stage.
And the reply was: Have you got the
leash? And then almost there… so I
figured…”
Jude cut in “You know, when I said a brief summary I
was expecting something more like ‘we know where they’re holding the doctor’
and then you give me a location. You can include the leviathan tale in your
written summary. Though it’s quite interesting, do you think they’re referring
to the virus as leviathan?”
“Yes” Adams replied excitedly. “You think it’s lame
too right? We’ve been arguing all day here, I think I prefer night
terror. Leviathan is supposed to be large”
Jude looked at Rachel and Janet and asked “How do
you even cope with him?” His phone rang. He picked it up and went a few feet
away, after a few minutes he returned smiling.
“We’ve got the cure” He said. “It’s all up to
whatever you have in there now” He pointed to the hard disk on the table. “I
need you guys to find out where they’re holding the doctor and if possible
where they’re holding the virus. I believe when we find one we find the other.”
“What do you mean?” Rachel asked.
“Well, I don’t think they kidnapped Daniel just for
the cure, they would need the virus in large amounts for their operations; they
need him to synthesize more samples. So I need you guys to find me something,
fast.”
“Well, we’re operating on a limited processing power
here and we have access to a limited database – illegally I must add” Adams
replied.
“That’s why I’m moving you to a more well-equipped
facility. It’s safer there and you can work with our analysts. We need to have
answers by tonight.”
Adams was excited, Rachel was ready and Janet well,
was bored.
